Jey Uso pinned Roman Reigns at WWE Money in the Bank in the O2 Arena in London in a heated Bloodline Civil War.
The subplot of the Bloodline Civil War was the hostile reception of Roman Reigns, who was subject to scores of some of the more creative chants of the night, which is clearing a high bar.
The Bloodline’s fracture has turned into a full-on split in recent weeks as the Usos left the faction and it’s manipulative Tribal Chief. Though many protested when Roman Reigns shockingly retained his WWE Universal Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 39—which remains the last time Reigns defended the title—the extended story of the Bloodline in 2023 has been one of unrest.
Even after betraying his own brothers to stand by Reigns’ side, WWE has slowly been planting the seeds of Solo Sikoa outgrowing The Bloodline. During SmackDown’s main event segment from the O2 Arena last night, Jimmy and Jey hinted at Solo becoming the new tribal chief, if nothing else to twist the knife and cause further tension between the two headed into Saturday’s showdown. Fans in London joined in on the act with support for Solo Sikoa in the midst of jeers for Reigns. There’s a possibility that by this time in April of 2024, Reigns could be headed into a fourth consecutive WrestleMania main event more solo than his cousin.
With WWE Universal Championship contenders—not to mention title defenses—few and far between, WWE had to establish a new challenger for SummerSlam season, where Reigns will presumably make his triannual world title defense. By winning The Bloodline Civil War at WWE Money in the Bank, WWE established not one but two challengers in The Usos. Jey will likely be prioritized for a SummerSlam title shot, but it took both Usos to finally slay Roman Reigns.
Last night on WWE SmackDown, the Usos predicted not only winning the Bloodline Civil War, but pinning Roman Reigns.
“What happens if you lose, Uce?” Jey Uso asked Reigns.
“When’s the last time he’s been pinned?” continued Jey. “Three years ago,” answered Jimmy. “When’s the next time he gon’ get pinned?” Jey followed up.
The singles aspiration of winning the WWE Universal Championship conflicts with the Usos’ tight bond as twin brothers, which will add yet another layer of intricacy to a storyline that has used these layers to paint masterpieces.
